Belio: FODMAP Scanner (“we”, “us”, “the app”) is a mobile application that helps users understand food ingredients, nutrition, and FODMAP levels. This privacy policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal information.
When you scan a product or upload an image, we collect images using your device’s camera or photo library.
To optimize response speed and improve user experience, image and ingredient analysis may begin automatically at the moment an image is captured within the app, before the user explicitly confirms or submits the scan.
This pre-processing is strictly limited to the purpose of delivering faster analysis results and is considered part of the user-initiated scanning functionality. No image analysis occurs unless the user actively opens and uses the camera or selects an image from the photo library.
If you cancel a scan before submitting, we delete any temporary copies of the image from our systems within 24 hours.
Because analysis may begin immediately, the image may already have been transmitted to our service providers for processing. Those providers may retain limited logs for abuse monitoring and policy enforcement for a limited period in accordance with their terms and policies.
By using the scanning features and uploading images to Belio: FODMAP Scanner, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive, worldwide license to store, process, analyze, and transform such images only for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, including:
We do not use uploaded images to identify individual users or to profile individuals.
We will not use your images for advertising or marketing materials in a way that could identify you, unless we obtain separate, explicit permission.
Uploaded images may be stored on our servers (Google Cloud / Firebase) for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy. You may request deletion at any time.
In some cases, we may manually review scans (including associated images and results) to verify accuracy, investigate suspected errors, and improve the service. Manual access is limited to authorized personnel and is performed under confidentiality obligations and appropriate access controls.
When you initiate an image or ingredient scan, the uploaded image and associated metadata may be processed by third-party AI providers (such as OpenAI or Google Gemini) acting as data processors on our behalf.
These providers may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States. Such transfers are conducted in accordance with GDPR requirements using appropriate safeguards, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) approved by the European Commission.
We strongly discourage users from uploading images that contain identifiable individuals, faces, or other personal characteristics of third parties.
If you believe an uploaded image contains identifiable personal data of third parties, you may request immediate deletion by contacting hi@belio.app.
Belio is designed for analyzing food products and meals only. Users should avoid capturing images that include people or personal environments where individuals may be identified. If such images are uploaded unintentionally, they may still be processed solely for the purpose of providing the requested food analysis and will not be used to identify or profile individuals.
We use third-party services to help improve the app:
We use your data for the following purposes:
We do not sell personal data. We share data with selected service providers. Depending on the service and configuration, these providers may act as data processors on our behalf or as independent controllers for certain limited processing activities (e.g., service security and operational logs):
We use contractual safeguards (including data processing agreements where applicable) and require appropriate security measures from our service providers. Where relevant, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) for international transfers.
We periodically review retention needs and apply appropriate safeguards to minimize the amount of personal data stored.
If you request deletion, we will delete the raw uploaded image and remove any association with your account/device. Derived, de-identified product assets (such as cropped packshots that do not identify you) may be retained as part of the product database.
You have the right to:
Send requests to: hi@belio.app
You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
You also have the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests. We will assess such requests and, where required by law, restrict or cease the processing.
The app is not intended for people under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from people under the age of 18.
When you scan a product or upload an image, data may be sent to OpenAI or Google Gemini for ingredient extraction, FODMAP evaluation, and (where applicable) generating AI-based product visuals derived from your uploaded photos.
Our AI service providers may retain limited logs of prompts/inputs and outputs for abuse monitoring and policy enforcement for a limited period, in accordance with their terms and policies.
Belio operates primarily within the EU and the UK. However, some of our service providers, including analytics and AI processing partners, may process data outside the European Economic Area (EEA), including in the United States.
Where such transfers occur, we rely on appropriate safeguards under GDPR, including Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs), and contractual obligations ensuring an adequate level of data protection.
We process personal data under the following legal bases:
We may update this policy as needed. The latest version will always be available in the app and on our website.
